Intranets and The Internet

In simplistic terms, a network is a group of 2 or more computers used for sharing information and resources. An Intranet is relatively new term that describes the internal network of a company whereas the Internet is a global network which contains everything from corporate private networks to a home users' personal computer.

With the proliferation of the Internet, the amount of information that is available to the average user is beyond comprehension. With one click of a button a user can look at real-time satellite images of Ontario to see whether or not it is raining. A user can also search for journal articles that are specific to his / her field from many of the online databases currently available on the web. Such is the scope and magnitude of the everchanging information available through the internet.
